One year ago today....

Today is the year anniversary of Grant's diagnosis. I don't have the time this morning to write as much as I should.

Let me just say, I hope I never have another year like last year.

Thanks to everyone for your love and support and compassion.

One day, when I have the emotional energy, I'll write a good post on this subject!

Until then......... one year down, two and half more to go!

Well, today has been a cruel reminder of how fleeting life can be. Two of our friends here at Harkers Island were killed in a tragic auto crash near Kinston this morning. Joyce Ann Gaskill was on her way to Ashville to attend a baby shower for her daughter Hilary- accompanying Joyce Ann was a cousin of Joel's, Beverly Johnson. Both were instantly killed by a drunk driver who crossed the median and crashed into Joyce Ann's car.

Many of you may know my son Mike's friend, Brent. This was Brent's mama- a double whammy for Brent and Hilary because their father Manley died in a boating accident 11 years ago.

So, today has been so very sad. We would like to rewind things and change the outcome of Joyce Ann's trip to see Hilary.

Last year I didn't know your family but quickly came to know and love you all - just wish it was under different circumstances. I remember the day, Bobbi Jo called me to tell me someone she knew had been diagnosed with leukemia and all I could say was NO – NOT ANOTHER ONE. But then I found out that ya’ll were up in Chapel Hill and then I knew you were in the best hands. Dr. Blatt is wonderful!!! We love her and hear from her often.

Love you guys and it was great seeing you all at our fun day for Relay.

Kristi

My prayers go up for these two families.

What an amazing year Grant has had.
You have ALL had.
He is an incredible boy with great faith.
I just know this year is going to be a great one for him.

So sorry to hear about the terrible tragedy. I heard about the accident... but had no idea the story behind it. Thanks for sharing. Our prayers are with their families too.
