Last evening, Grant's fever and overall "feeling-bad-ness" got the gang up to Chapel Hill for further inspection of what might be ailing him. His fever got up to 104 yesterday. He was admitted to the hospital in Chapel Hill, and still with the IV bags and other meds, his fever spiked again during the night to 104.9. As of this morning, the report is that it has gone down, and he is resting, as they didn't really even get settled in till the wee small hours of the morning...
As of right now, they have done chest x-rays and ruled out pneumonia. They ran more blood cultures last night, so those results may be available today sometime. His ANC numbers are uncomfortably low, to say the least - at 0.3 (which runs the high risk of developing infection, should he be exposed to it), so the timeline for returning home is completely unknown at this point. That number will have to go up closer to 1 for him to be released.
Emily is at the hospital with him, of course, and Mama spent the night at the hotel in Chapel Hill, where they had made reservations for this mornings clinic visit, which he will not be able to go to. So, Mama will be heading back to the hospital in the next hour or so.

Our friend, Wendi said last week as a comment, "No need to ask" after I had asked that everyone keep the Nelsons in your prayers -so this time I'll just say - Thank you all for your prayers. :)

Hello to all from UNC...
We are tucked in safe and sound up on the 6th floor at UNC. Our normal home on the 5th floor is packed, so we are hanging here for a while.
Grant's ANC, previously thought to be a pitiful .3, is in all actuality an even more pitiful 0.0. His WBC count is over 2 though, so we are hopeful that his ANC will rebound quickly and we can get out of here before the end of the week. We are at least here until tomorrow while we wait for the blood cultures they did yesterday to show anything.
Grant is very content to be watching his favorite cartoons, Grandma is on her laptap, and I am on mine! Its more like a little vacation, really! ;)

Time for the afternoon update:
Dr. Blatt decided to go ahead with the spinal tap and chemo this morning. Grant made out just fine, he was the last one they did, so Grant was just wheelchaired across the street to the clinic for his turn.
Right now, Grant has not been running much fever- around 100, which is much better. His ANC has rebounded to .6 so that is a good direction for the counts to be headed in.
Grant finally ate a little cheesecake and orange juice for dinner. So all indications are looking good.
It looks like the hospital has a room ready on the fifth floor, so we will be moving in a little bit. The 5th floor is the normal oncology floor, so it feels more like "home" away from home.
So- the room is 5C05- I'll post the new phone number when we get settled in.
